Terms of use
These terms cover alvacompare.com, its REST API and its MCP server (together, “Alva”). By using Alva you accept them. Last updated 16 October 2026.
What Alva is
Alva is a free, independent comparison of household energy tariffs in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, and of solar PV installers and packages in the Republic of Ireland. It shows information that suppliers and installers publish, with estimates worked out from it. Alva is not a supplier, an installer, a broker or a financial adviser, and it doesn't switch you or sign you up to anything.
Estimates, not offers
- Prices come from each supplier's or installer's published price list or website, read automatically and checked before they go live. They can still be out of date or wrong, and suppliers change prices, discounts and eligibility often.
- Yearly costs, savings and payback figures are estimates based on typical usage, the inputs you give and published data such as PVGIS solar data and SEAI grant rules. Your bill, your roof and your use will differ.
- Always confirm the price and terms with the supplier before switching, and get a site survey and a written quote from an installer before you buy solar panels or a battery.
- Nothing on Alva is financial, legal or tax advice, or a recommendation to buy from any company.
How results are ordered
Energy tariffs are ranked by estimated cost for the household and solar packages by estimated payback. Alva may earn a commission if you switch through some links; that never affects the order of results. Alva has no commercial agreement with any solar installer today, and every installer on the SEAI register with a website is listed, free.
API, MCP server and data
- The REST API and MCP server are free and need no key. Please use them reasonably; we may limit or block abuse.
- You may reuse the data, including in AI assistants' answers, if you credit “Alva Compare (alvacompare.com)” and, where you can, link to the tariff or installer page. Don't present it as your own price list or as an offer from a supplier.
- Don't use Alva to send spam, to attack or overload it, or to scrape it in a way that harms the service. The API is the easy way to get everything.
- We may change or stop the API, the MCP tools or any feature, ideally with notice on the developers page.
Corrections
If you're a supplier or installer and something about you is wrong, tell us through the contact form and we'll correct it, usually within a day.
Other websites
Links take you to suppliers', installers' and other websites that we don't control. Their terms and privacy policies apply there, and any contract you make is between you and them.
Liability
Alva is provided as it is, free of charge. As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for losses from relying on its information, from errors or out-of-date prices, or from the service being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be excluded by law.
Privacy
See the privacy notice.
Changes and law
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version. These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and the Irish courts have jurisdiction, without affecting the rights of consumers in Northern Ireland to bring claims in their own courts.
